5 best learning websites for kids

best learning websites for kidsI wanted to share with you my favorite learning websites for our kids:

1- Starfall.com
This website has something for EVERY age.
Letters and sounds
Beginner Readers (word families)
Advanced Readers
Writers (poems, stories)

It is fun and the kids love it!  It even has little learning videos that they can watch.

2- Jumpstart
Our 6 year old loves Jumpstart.  THIS ONE IS HIS FAVORITE!  It has a lot of math in it, so he really enjoys playing the math games.  You can also change your avatar and “buy” things with the points that you earn (pets, things for your room, things for your avatar).  I never showed him how to play, he just figured it out on his own when he was four, so it must be pretty easy to navigate.

Oh- the best part is that if you can play with a friend.  So he and our niece can go to the same “room” and see each other (they live 9 hours apart!).  They can’t talk, but they can see what the other one is doing and sort of follow each other.  (make sure that your child uses a fake name, of course!  Our son made up a “super-cool name!”)

You can pay for a membership to give you access to more rooms, but the free version is great in itself!

3. Raz-Kids

Our son started using this at school and it has been great for reading books!  It can read to you or you can read it.  It then asks you some follow-up questions to be sure that you have comprehended what you have read.

4. PBS kids
This is a favorite for each of the kids.  It is free and they love it!  It has every show that they watch and really great educational games to play.

5. Disney Jr
This one is fun, but I will say that our younger kids (pre-readers) have a hard time navigating it.   It can easily take them to the parents section or to coloring sheets that need to be printed (which they aren’t trying to do if they are playing online).  I will let them do this one when I am in the room with them or if I have started a game for them.

What are your favorites ones?  Leave them in the comments section so that we can try them out!

Hi there!

I’m Becky, a former elementary school teacher turned certified child development therapist and blogger. I work at home with my husband and together we are raising (and partially homeschooling) our four children in the Carolinas. I love diet coke, ice cream, and spending time with my family.
